OU to Press for # 1 in 2011

One thing people tend to forget about Josh Heupel, the new co-OC at Oklahoma, is that he was almost a Heisman winner himself.  In 2000 Heupel quarterbacked Oklahoma to a 13-0 season and finished second behind Chris Weinke of Florida State for the Heisman Trophy.  Heupel then went on to beat Chris Weinke and FSU 13-2, giving OU the national championship.  With a lot of help from Heupel's team-mates, OU held Weinke to no touchdowns and two interceptions.

Heupel also was an OU assistant in 2004. That year QB Jason White, the 2003 Heisman winner, took Oklahoma to a 12-0 season before losing to USC for the national championship.
Heupel was not only a great QB but he has worked with two Heisman winners, come in second for the Heisman himself, and coached and played under the very highest pressure conditions.  It's hard for his players not to listen when he speaks and Sam Bradford is proof that listening to Heupel is a smart thing to do.

Bradford has a lot of natural talent but few remember that he had to compete for the starting position at Oklahoma.  With some early help from Heupel's coaching, Sam may very well develop into one of the all-time greatest of QBs.  I expect him to do just that.
